Creative Classrooms Visual Arts Program

Our Lady of Angels participates in Creative Classrooms, a visual art program comprised of art instruction, museum visits, and student art exhibitions. Creative Classrooms fosters creativity, literacy, and critical thinking by engaging students in making art and in discussing and writing about the process. All art projects are closely tied to the academic curriculum. The students participate in a studio art program, in which they attend one studio art class per week. They make art, reflect on their artistic creations in writing and speech, and explain the personal significance of their work. In addition, OLA participates in the Museum Program, which enables teachers to build a curriculum unit around a visit to an art museum.

Attic Salt Theater Company

OLA offers an arts-in-education program through Attic Salt Theatre Company. Attic Salt provides a rigorous academic arts curriculum that teaches students how to use creative arts in their everyday lives. Last year, the students participated in a program called Literature in the News. After reading the classic To Kill a Mockingbird, the 8th grade class created its own newspaper and live report, focusing on important Language Arts skills such as informative narrative, voice, hyperbole, and objectivity vs. subjectivity.

New York Philharmonic School Day Concert Program

OLA partners with The New York Philharmonic, America's first symphony orchestra, to offer School Day Concerts. The program introduces young people to the symphony orchestra and familiarizes them with important symphonic works and composers. In addition to attending a performance at Lincoln Center, the Philharmonic also provides an in-school chamber concert performed by professional New York Philharmonic Teaching Artists. The program is integrated into the students academic experience through additional lessons and curriculum materials taught in the classroom.

Technology

Each student at Our Lady of Angels attends Computer Classes once a week. The computer lab is equipped with 21 internet-ready computers and an extensive software library available for students of all ages to develop their technological skills. In addition, the school has SMARTBoard technology, and every classroom has internet access.

Music Program

Our Lady of Angels offers regular music classes to all students. The children love to sing, and take part in numerous performances for faculty and parents throughout the year, including their Christmas Concert

Physical Education

Our Lady of Angels believes that Physical Education is an integral part of students' health and well being. All grades participate in Physical Education in the school's full size gym.

After School Program

OLA offers everyday after-school care at an affordable cost. Within the after-school program, there are many activities in which students can participate including homework help, school choir, chess club, cheerleading, and tennis.

CYO Basketball Team

OLA offers a boys varsity and junior varsity CYO basketball team where students learn the values of teamwork, leadership, and hard work.
